Donations to Help Homeless Cats This winter, we would like to collect items to help homeless animals and since there is a greater need for cats at this time and fewer resources available to them, that will be our focus. We will have a box downstairs in the Harton House where you can put your donation items and notes and you can give any cash donations to Christy at the Earth Goods Store. We welcome bags or jars of change. We will distribute your donations among groups and affiliated volunteers that are helping these animals with basic food and shelter, spay/neutering to prevent future over populations and make cats more adoptable and those who are finding great homes or barn paradise habits. In addition to the list of supplies listed, these groups need VOLUNTEERS, TEMPORARY FOSTER HOMES, and MONEY. If you feel you could volunteer or become part of a non-profit working with homeless animals in any way, please drop a note in the box with your contact information and any ideas on what you feel might be helpful or times you could be available. There are times when the simplest things are needed, like drivers to drop off and pick up animals in carriers from the vets, or help with adoption days answering questions and telling people about the pets, or baking, putting up posters, or other tasks related to fundraising.. And, they have some wonderful cats and kittens for adoption if you have room in your heart and home (or barn) for one or more. Cash is needed for Raining Cats and Dogs, a local area non-profit organization, that helps homeless animals with spay or neutering. Their main expense is for vet services. Another place some cash is needed is for medicine and vet services for volunteer foster and rescue individuals and groups. Just $10 of medicine that can be a real lifesaver for a cat with a respiratory infection from lack of shelter and proper nutrition. Some foster care homes take on these struggling rescued cats and kittens and can nurse them back to health with just a little help from you. Here are lists of other items that would greatly help overburdened shelters, foster homes, and others who do rescues in the area: Blankets and Towels Cat and Kitten food - Purina dry or Frisky canned or canned tuna Cat litter (Tractor Supply has big bags of inexpensive unscented scoopable) Carriers, Cages, and Catch Traps Cat Litter Boxes and Litter scoops Tarpaulins - for makeshift shelter roofs and windbreaks We also invite you to talk to your vet and see if they would be willing to help organization and volunteers who are helping with the homeless. We plan to have a copy him to specify any gift or discount they might be willing to make. Just have the vet sign the letter and put a copy back in the box. We plan to host an adoption day with these organizations, their members and affiliated volunteers in the coming months and you will be able to visit with representatives of beautiful creatures your donations are helping to save. Also, you can go to petfinder.com today and look under Country Cats in Estill Springs and see some local rescue and homeless |
