About the Shakti Mat™ For thousands of years, Indian mystics used the bed of nails to achieve a balance between body and mind as it helped remove emotional, physical and mental blockages. We’ve taken this ancient healing concept and combined it with Swedish innovation to offer you an easy and practical way to reduce stress, achieve deep relaxation and renew your overall health and wellbeing. How It Works Laying on the Shakti Mat’s regularly for 20 to 40 minutes at a time encourages your body to release endorphins. This stimulates the release of oxytocin - the feel-good hormone. As a result, your body relaxes and releases stress, which promotes restful sleep and reduces back and neck pain. Sounds so simple. Yet Western medicine is just now coming to understand that activation of the body’s pressure points (acupressure) not only increases the blood’s ability to absorb nutrients and oxygen, it also facilitates the removal of harmful metabolic by-products that build up in the circulatory system. By stimulating the blood flow, additional neuropeptides flood the nervous system, creating a sense of increased relaxation that promotes healing.

Use the Shakti Mat if you: Have regular stress Experience poor sleep Have low energy Have muscle tension Feel stiffness Have neck or back pain Sit in front of a computer for hours Stand or long periods Drive for long periods Work long hours Demonstrated benefits of the The Shakti Mat include: Relief from chronic neck and back pain Reduced stress and anxiety Improved sleep Increased energy Positions Listed below are descriptions on specific "problem" areas of the body. We have modeled the suggestions using a thin cotton cloth as to not offend and preserve modesty. Stomach Lie face down on the Shakti Mat™, but please use caution. This can be a very intense, but powerful position. You should be accustomed to back treatment first. Neck and Back Place a pillow or rolled up towel under the Shakti Mat™ so that it shapes itself appropriately for the neck. Correctly positioned, it should give support from the back of the neck all the way to the base of the skull. This is very good for relieving tension in the shoulders and in particular for relaxing the Trapezium muscles that runs all the way up to the base of the neck. Jaw Lie on the Shakti Mat™ so that your face is touching, rotating to your other side midway through your meditation. If your skin is sensitive, place a thin cotton cloth between the mat and your skin (a towel would be too thick to feel the benefits). Clenching jaw and gritting teeth can be alleviated, and as a result a new shine to the whole face appears. Knee and thighs Lie on your side, with the Shakti Mat™ underneath your hip and thigh areas, turning over midway through your meditation. Feet By standing on the Shakti Mat™, this position works on the reflexology zones which have an overall effect on the body. Using the Shakti MatTM on the soles of the feet improves stability and balance. The feeling of having both feet on the ground increases with this position.
